OBJECTIVE: WHAT HAVE I LEARNED?
This quote shows how we connect emotional response to situations such as learning. Our emotions from that situation will impact the memory be it positive or negative and influence the experience. My reflection on this quote is my emotional memory to learning has been negative in that I didn’t get encouragement or positive feedback so I never was enthused about learning. I always FELT that it was teachers against the students unless you were particularly gifted then you got the praise and applauded for doing a good job. If not then we got left behind.

REFLECTIVE: WHAT DID I REALISE ABOUT TEACHING?
I have to keep my perspective on teaching with my students who may (like myself) have a not so positive emotional memory to education or learning. As teachers it’s important to know who your students are. We need to make that emotional connection for them a positive experience so they get the most out of what we need to teach them. If there needs to be constructive criticism, start it with a positive comment then explain what was wrong but with complete explanation on a positive note.

INTERPRETIVE: AHA!
I’m not sure if I really had an AHA moment with this quote. As I read it over numerous times and while doing the reading and research, I experienced emotion I had reflecting on my past learning. Maybe that was it! As an adult educator this quote shows that our students can bring in baggage from previous experience. With critical reflection it can shift the negative reactions by challenging their pre-existing thoughts and beliefs. KEY INSIGHT? This quote was very insightful in the respect that it can be a holistic way of teaching and with a continuous motivating environment our students will become successful in their learning.

DECISIONAL: HOW DOES THIS INFLUENCE MY TEACHING?
I need to incorporate activities that activate my students in creative and emotive ways, Instill positive reinforcement while encouraging a safe environment in which to learn. Always try to get them to reflect on their learning experience with journals and feedback creating awareness in their learning journey. Allowing them the freedom to express opinions whether positive or negative and not make that a negative experience for them. My teaching has to be fluid and adaptable to my student’s emotional needs. It changes from day to day, which I have to stay in touch with.
